Session Description: Overcoming the “Jar Jar Effect”: This talk focuses on how we avoided group think to invent Hasbro's highest revenue-generating invention of 2013.Group think is common in large organizations, and can often lead many capable people to become blind to obvious issues... or obvious solutions. We call this the Jar Jar Effect. Retoy overcame a similar situation with the invention of Telepods, an elegant, (in hindsight) almost obvious invention that disproved the notion that a struggling toy company could compete with Skylanders without investing in high-end technology.

  • Company Description Retoy is a next-generation toy company. Our mission is to throw open the doors of the toy industry, letting anyone with a passion for toy- and game-making create and market their own custom, “digitally active” toy line. Founded by inventors, game designers and obsessive collectors, we’re developing a platform that lets any app developer easily and cheaply produce and sell physical toys that tie into their digital games. We’ve already launched two massively successful lines with Hasbro and the App Store’s #1 developer, Rovio: Angry Birds Star Wars: Telepods and Angry Birds Go! Telepods.
